Parish Ministries

Hospitality

At Stephen’s we strive to make hospitality the key to who we are and what we do. Our hospitality ministry volunteers greet congregants before the service and usher during the service. They also provide light snacks as well as coffee, tea, and other drinks immediately after the service, during the “eighth Episcopal sacrament” – Coffee Hour.

“All are welcome in this place…”

S.A.G.E.S

S.A.G.E.S. is a group of 50’s more or less men and women whose major focus is to get to know each other better.  We are exploring areas of interest to educate ourselves as to how we can better serve our church community.  We offer fun activities on and off property; address aging issues identified by our participants;  are helpful to our neighbors; and supportive of outreach opportunities as they arise. We meet the third Thursday of each month at noon for a pot-luck lunch in our dining room.

Education for Ministry

Education for Ministry (EfM) was developed by the School of Theology in Sewanee, TN to provide a mechanism to help people work through questions they may have about their faith, while giving them an opportunity to learn more about Christian traditions and theology. This four-year course of study, led by a trained mentor, provides a framework for the group to connect faith to their daily lives through reading and discussion.

Heretics Weekly Book Group

Heretics Weekly is a book group that meets via Zoom most Saturdays at noon. Their motto is no theological subject is off the table. Books are selected based on proposals & consensus from the group. Recently we have discussed books by CS Lewis, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Rob Bell, John Dominic Crossman, Rachel Held Evans, Keith Giles and Ilia Delio.

Game Day

Our gamers meet the second Saturday of every month in the dining hall to play Mexican Train dominoes. If you don’t know how to play, we are happy to teach you. Bring a light snack to share and join in the fun.

Daughters of the King

St Stephens Phoebe Chapter of The Daughters of the King is a religious community of women who are empowered by the Holy Spirit, to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others, and to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world. The women have vowed to be guided by a Rule of Life that encompasses a Rule of Prayer, a Rule of Service and the practice of Evangelism.

Daughters of the King wear a special cross as a constant reminder of their vow and as a sign that
they cannot live a day without Christ. The cross is an outward and visible sign of the commitment
each member made to God and to God’s kingdom.

Our Phoebe of St. Stephen’s Chapter meets monthly for fellowship, study, service and prayer. Individual members lead Adult Formation opportunities, maintain the Parish Prayer List, serve in many capacities within the life of the community, and encourage each other as they live out the Baptismal covenant.
